FAQ

How deep is each layer in Drill to Earth's Core?
Grass runs 0–10,000 m, Dirt 10,000–17,000 m, Clay 17,000–24,000 m, Fossil 24,000–31,000 m, Crystal 31,000–41,000 m, Toxic 41,000–51,000 m, Radioactive 51,000–61,000 m, The Abyss 61,000–72,000 m, The Void 72,000–84,000 m, and the deepest layer runs 84,000–1,000,000 m. Beyond that is the Heart of the Earth.
How much HP does each boss wall have?
Boss wall HP by layer: Grass 100 and 500, Dirt 1,000, Clay 2,000, Fossil 4,000, Crystal 10,000, Toxic 25,000, Radioactive 50,000, The Abyss 100,000, The Void 200,000, the deepest layer 500,000, and the Heart of the Earth 5,000,000.
When do mutations start in Drill to Earth's Core?
Mutations begin in the Dirt Layer at 10,000 m, where enemies can carry any mutation. The Clay Layer introduces Void, the Toxic Layer introduces Toxic, and by the deepest layer enemies can roll Void, Toxic and Fire at once.
What is the Wolf Bat at the Glowing Core wall?
Wolf Bat appears when you drill the Glowing Core Boss Wall in the Heart of the Earth, every 100 km. It teleports between four positions to charge an energy orb that grows and explodes, then rushes the players. At 0 HP it is stunned and fully regenerates its health in 10 seconds.
How often do walls appear?
Little Walls and Large Walls appear roughly every 700 m to 1 km. A Little Wall comes first with a Large Wall behind it, and Boss Walls sit at the end of each layer with two cave entrances beside them.

The layer map

Depth in Drill to Earth’s Core is the progression system. Every layer has a fixed depth range, a fixed boss wall HP value and a fixed enemy list, so you can plan a run around exactly what is coming instead of discovering it.

Layer Depth Boss wall HP Mutations New enemies
Grass (surface) 0 – 3,000 m 100 HP Goblin
Grass 3,000 – 10,000 m 500 HP Goblin Brute
Dirt 10,000 – 17,000 m 1,000 HP All mutations begin Loot Goblin
Clay 17,000 – 24,000 m 2,000 HP Void, plus all mutations
Fossil 24,000 – 31,000 m 4,000 HP All mutations Spider
Crystal 31,000 – 41,000 m 10,000 HP All mutations Bombo, Bat, Fuel Leech
Toxic 41,000 – 51,000 m 25,000 HP Toxic
Radioactive 51,000 – 61,000 m 50,000 HP Toxic
The Abyss 61,000 – 72,000 m 100,000 HP All mutations, higher chance Mole Man
The Void 72,000 – 84,000 m 200,000 HP Void
Deepest layer 84,000 – 1,000,000 m 500,000 HP Void, Toxic, Fire Wolf Bat
Heart of the Earth 1,000,000 m and beyond 5,000,000 HP Void, Toxic, Fire Wolf Bat

The starting stretch is deliberately soft. The Grass Layer has no Little Walls at the very beginning, so a new player cannot get stuck before they have learned the controls, and the first dungeon appears at 1,000 m with a Trade Outpost close to the boss wall.

Walls, and why the HP numbers matter

Three wall types repeat through every layer:

  • Little Wall — low HP, appears first.
  • Large Wall — average HP, sits directly behind the Little Wall.
  • Boss Wall — the highest HP object in the layer, placed at the end with two cave entrances beside it.

Little and Large Walls appear roughly every 700 m to 1 km. If you have the Coin Walls or Monster Engine drill upgrades, breaking them converts those walls into income instead of just time.

Wall HP scales hard with depth. Little Walls go from nothing at the surface to 25 HP, then 30 HP, then 50 HP, and finally 500 HP in the deepest layer, while Large Walls reach 5,000 HP. Boss wall HP climbs from 100 to 5,000,000. That curve is why drill power compounds — the same upgrade that saves you two seconds at 20,000 m saves you a minute at 84,000 m. The drill upgrades guide covers which cards to buy for it.

Mutations

Mutations start in the Dirt Layer at 10,000 m, where enemies can carry any mutation. From there each layer adds its own flavour:

  • Clay (17,000 m) — Void arrives, and with it the Void Clay Wall Boss, which is completely covered by Void. Arriving at that boss wall drains your drill’s fuel completely, so bring 3 to 7 coal or more to charge the drill early.
  • Toxic (41,000 m) — Toxic mutations. The rest stop here has been broken and swallowed, overrun by miners, and the shop sells a guaranteed Gold Medkit. If you wanted to sell items on this layer, push to the next rest stop or stop and collect coal instead.
  • Deepest layer (84,000 m) — Void, Toxic and Fire can all roll at once, and mutation chance increases further down.

The three special encounters

Most boss walls are a straight damage race. Three are not.

Void Clay Wall Boss (Clay Layer). Your fuel is emptied on arrival. This is the single most common place for an otherwise healthy run to die, and the fix is boring: carry coal.

Broken rest stop (Toxic Layer). The usual safe point is gone. The shop still sells a guaranteed Gold Medkit, which is the one reliable heal in that stretch.

Wolf Bat (Glowing Core wall, every 100 km). Wolf Bat teleports between four positions, charges an energy orb that grows from big to giant and then explodes, and afterwards rushes the players to attack. At 0 HP it is only stunned — it fully regenerates its health in 10 seconds, so the fight is about surviving the cycles rather than landing one big hit. Bring 1 to 2 Golden Medkits or a Revive Kit before you drill the Glowing Boss Wall, or a wipe costs you the whole descent’s progress.

Planning a run around the map

Because the layer table is fixed, a run plan is mostly bookkeeping:

  1. Know your next boss wall HP. 25,000 HP at the Toxic Layer and 50,000 HP one layer later is a step change, and it is where under-invested drill power shows up.
  2. Pre-stage fuel before the Clay Layer. You know the Void Clay Wall Boss will empty you.
  3. Carry a revive for every 100 km mark. The Glowing Core wall is where wipes happen.
  4. Bank progress at rest stops. Dying loses the run, not your career total depth, but it does lose everything you were carrying.

For the full run plan, see how to reach 100 KM. If you are still working out your first class, all classes and the best classes tier list cover what to buy, and getting Cores covers how to afford it.
