FAQ

What ores are in Drill to Earth's Core?
Seven: Coal, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Ruby, Emerald and Heartgem. Coal is the fuel ore and appears from the Grass Layer down. Iron and Gold appear from 3,000 m, and the rarer ores — Diamond, Ruby, Emerald and Heartgem — are deeper.
Which ore gives the most Cores?
Ruby. The Mine Ruby achievement pays 175 Cores, the single largest achievement reward in the game. Emerald is next, followed by Diamond at 60 and Gold at 45.
What is the easiest Core achievement?
Mine Coal pays 5 Cores and you will break a coal node within minutes of starting. The 30-Core tier — Mine Iron, Welcome Back, Power Of Friendship and Group Member — is better value because those require almost no effort.
How do I smelt ore into bars?
Find a Furnace Post, which has roughly a 10% chance to spawn as a structure next to the drill. Furnace Posts heat Iron and Gold ore into bars, and bars sell for more Coins than raw ore.
Why do I need to smelt bars?
Two reasons. Bars sell for more Coins, and Miner class Level 3 requires smelting 50 Iron Ore and 25 Gold Ore to unlock its doubled ore and bar sale prices. Without a Furnace Post you cannot finish that upgrade.

Every ore and what it pays

Mining ore is the income loop at the centre of Drill to Earth’s Core. Each ore type has a matching achievement, and those achievements pay Cores — the lobby currency that buys classes.

Ore Achievement reward Where it appears
Coal 5 Cores Grass Layer and everywhere below
Iron 30 Cores From 3,000 m
Gold 45 Cores From 3,000 m
Diamond 60 Cores Deeper layers
Ruby 175 Cores Deeper layers
Emerald Not confirmed Deepest layers
Heartgem Not confirmed Endgame layers

Ruby is the standout. At 175 Cores it is the largest single achievement reward in the game — more than Diamond, Gold and Iron combined. If you are saving toward a 5,000-Core class, Ruby nodes are the fastest honest route.

Coal is the workhorse. It pays almost nothing as an achievement, but coal is the fuel ore: you feed it to the drill, and running dry is one of the two main ways runs fail. The 100 KM plan recommends carrying 3 to 7 coal or more specifically for the Void Clay Wall Boss at 17,000 m, which empties your tank on arrival.

Ores as achievements

The ore achievements sit inside a larger badge list, and the cheap ones are worth grabbing early:

Badge Requirement Cores
Mine Ruby Break a ruby ore node 175
Mine Diamond Break a diamond ore node 60
Mine Gold Break a gold ore node 45
Mine Iron Break an iron ore node 30
Mine Coal Break a coal ore node 5

The Cores guide has the full achievement table alongside chest multipliers and boss wall payouts, which is where the real Core income comes from.

Smelting: ore into bars

Iron and Gold ore can be smelted into bars at a Furnace Post. The Furnace Post has roughly a 10% chance to spawn as a structure next to the drill, which makes it the rarest structure in the game by a wide margin.

Bars are worth more Coins than raw ore. But the bigger reason to care is that smelting gates a class upgrade:

Miner Level 3 requires smelting 50 Iron Ore and 25 Gold Ore and unlocks doubled ore and bar sale prices. Without a Furnace Post you cannot finish that upgrade — which is why a class that looks like a quick grind turns into a multi-run project.

The practical advice: when a Furnace Post does spawn, use it. Do not walk past it planning to smelt later, because the 10% roll does not come around often.

Making ore pay

Three things multiply what a mining run is worth:

Miner class — Level 3 doubles ore and bar sale prices. It is the single biggest ore-income upgrade in the game and it costs only 100 Cores to unlock the class. The Miner guide covers the level gates.

Demolitionist class — Level 2 gives walls broken by explosives a 50% chance to spawn ores. Since Little and Large Walls appear every 700 m to 1 km, that converts the game’s most repetitive activity into an ore source. See the Demolitionist guide.

Lucky Looter class — the chest and ore multiplier class at 10,000 Cores. It is the strongest economy pick in the game, and the best classes tier list ranks it in the top tier.

Mined ore also does not exist in a vacuum — it feeds bars, bars feed Coins, and Coins buy the drill upgrades that break the next wall. If your runs are ending at the wall rather than at the ore node, the bottleneck is drill power, not mining speed.

Where to find ore

Ore appears in structures — Mineshafts, Dungeons and the rooms beside the drill — and from Stone-mutated enemies, which explode into random ores when killed. The structures and dungeons guide maps which rooms hold ore by layer, and the enemies guide explains the Stone mutation.

Deeper layers hold rarer ore, so the honest answer to “where do I find Ruby” is: go deeper. The layers page has every depth range and what changes at each one.
